THE HIGH PRIESTESS OF SOUL JOINS THE BLUES BROTHERS
Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, and Dan Akroyd, a/k/a Elwood Blues, revisited their roles as part of the Blues Brothers Experience on stage Sunday, rehearsing for thier GRAMMY Awards appearance Wedensday at radio City Music Hall. Franklin, winner of 15 GRAMMYs herself, sang her classic R&B hit "R-E-S-P-E-C-T." With help from Dan Akroyd and the Blues Brothers Dancers, Franklin's timeless voice and soulful performance sounded as fresh as when she performed the song more than three decades ago.
Only a team of performers as seasoned as Franklin and Akroyd can bring alive hits from the past and make them scream with today's energy. Akroyd's movements and dance steps were vintage Blues Brothers. His natural cool and Blues background were apparent. Classic scenes from the original Blues Brothers movie came to mind as Akroyd strutted around the stage.
During the live broadcast, after their performance, Akroyd and his fellow Blues Brothers will move the show along by announcing the nominess for Best New Artist.
